Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine
The Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Department was founded in 1954. After decades of effort under the leadership of Prof. Yu Yang and Prof. Kaisheng Yin, it is consistently ranked a top division in Jiangsu Province and also one of the best PMCC divisions in East China. Our board-certified pulmonologists hold clinical and research expertise in a broad range of diseases including asthma, COPD, critical care, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, pulmonary hypertension, infectious diseases, and sleep medicine. We also provide state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment services, including interventional pulmonology. Experts in our division involved in the preparation of the national guidelines of pulmonary vascular diseases, asthma, COPD and obstructive sleep apnea.
The Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Department is a comprehensive clinical, research and teaching unit. It is a preliminary national key clinical department and national clinical drug experimental base. It was also identified as key disciplinary center for science and education, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine diagnosis, treatment and quality control in Jiangsu Province. It was one of the first batch of respiratory endoscopy technical training bases qualified by National Ministry of Health. And one of the three bases for resident standardization training program in Jiangsu Province.
The department currently has 120 beds including 7 beds in Intensive Care Unit and employs 113 physicians and nurses, among which 24 have senior professional titles, 6 are full professors, 4 are associate professors, 6 are doctoral supervisors and 11 are master tutors.

Dr. Huang is working as director of the division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Jiangsu Province Hospital. He is now the chairman of both Jiangsu Provincial Respiratory Society and Jiangsu Provincial Integrated Traditional and Western Respiratory Medicine Society as well as the senior editor, International Journal of Respiratory Medicine.
Dr. Huang obtained his master and doctor degree in respiratory medicine from Nanjing Medical University in 1982 and 1999, and worked in Jiangsu Provincial Hospital, which was also named the first affiliated hospital with Nanjing Medical University since 1982. He is a pioneer of many therapy technologies in Jiangsu Province, such as bronchoalveolar lavage, metal airway stent implantation and medical thoracoscopy.
Dr. Huang leaded 1 National Nature Science Foundation, and completed 8 national and provincial scientific research projects. Dr. Huang published more than 140 papers in national and international academic journals as first or corresponding author and accomplished 20 books and monograph as chief editor, associate editor or editor. Dr. Huang received a third prize of Chinese Medical Prize, 2 first prize of Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Progress Award, and received the National Respiratory Physician Award in 2014.
Dr. Huang is specialized in asthma, COPD, lung cancer, infectious diseases and rare diseases of respiratory system.

The Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine department provides inpatient and outpatient diagnosis and treatment. Specialists in Respiratory Medicine and Critical Care Medicine provide state-of-the-art services in all kinds of respiratory system diseases, especially in the fields of Asthma, COPD, Pulmonary Vascular Diseases, Sleep Apnea, Respiratory Failure and Lung cancer. Our distinguishing approaches include bronchial thermoplasty for severe asthma, airway stent implantation for airway stenosis, multidisciplinary options for the evaluation and management of lung nodules, integrated non-invasive assessment of pulmonary arterial pressure and right heart fuction, chronic transvenous phrenic nerve stimulation for treatment of central sleep apnea in heart failure patients.
There are two lung fuction laboratories, an allergy and clinical immunology center, a nebulization therapy center, a sleep disorder center and a bronchoscopy center in our department.

Since 1980s, our department began to send out the excellent staff abroad.
