General Practice


Overview

The General Practice Department of Jiangsu Province Hospital was founded in September 2016 and has now developed into an integrated division encompassing medical treatment, preventive services, academic research and teaching, ranked as a second-tier discipline by national clinical standards. It is fully equipped with advanced medical facilities, adequate training programs, and versatile medical techniques.The department currently employs over 50 professionals, among which 4 have senior professional titles, 4 have vice senior titles, 2 are qualified doctoral supervisors , 3 are qualified master tutors, and 8 have doctorate.

In order to meet various needs of the patients, the General Practice Department has set up 80 ward beds, 2 specialized outpatient clinics and 6 community bases for two-way referrals. In our department, more than 2,500 patients and 500 severe patients with critical illnesses receive treatment annually; meanwhile, over 10,000 endoscopic diagnosis and treatment and around 3000 surgeries graded as level 3 and level 4 were conducted in the past year.

Dr. Tang has been engaged in clinical work for more than 28 years. She specializes in common digestive diseases and complex diseases, especially early gastrointestinal cancer, liver and intestinal diseases, gastrointestinal pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NENs). Meanwhile, she is sophisticated in performing endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic mucosal dissection (ESD), encoscopic retrograde cholangio-rancreatography (ERCP), double-balloon enteroscopy and gastrointestinal stent implantation, which brings her rich clinical experiences in digestive diseases and endoscopic interventional treatment. Nowadays, Dr. Tang is a certified member of European Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (ENETS), Chinese Medical Doctor Association integrated Physician Association, Neuroendocrine Oncology Group of the Pancreatic Cancer Committee of China Anti-Cancer Association, and Committee on precision medicine of Association of Medical Exchanges Across the Taiwan Straits. Dr. Tang is now granted as the second highest-level talent of "333 Project", key medical personnel of "Project in Science and Education of Department of Public Health of Jiangsu Province ", academic talent of "Six talent peaks project in Jiangsu Province ", and she is among the first batch of "Top-Notch Health Professionals". In recent years, Dr. Tang has initiated and managed 10 research projects including research sponsored by China’s National Nature Science Foundations. She has published more than 50 papers of which more than 20 were SCI articles, and 3-4 monographs (chief editor, associate editor). She also won the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award and New Technologies Awards of Health Department of Jiangsu Province.


Medical Treatment Provided By GP Department Include:

  •  Initial diagnosis with symptoms (such as fever, fatigue, cough, chest pain, abdominal pain, hematuria, proteinuria, consciousness disorder, etc.), dual referral;

  •  Common Undifferentiated Diseases

  •  Problems involving diagnosis and treatment of diseases on multiple systems and organs;

  •  Personalized physical examination services;

  •  Endoscopic screening in high-risk group; diagnosis and treatment of common and frequently-occurring digestive diseases;

  •  Diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases such as small bowel disease, neuroendocrine tumors;

  •  Continuous and comprehensive health services for chronic diseases and malignancies;

  •  Patients who need to be hospitalized after consultation in general medical clinics;

  •  Cases requiring hospitalization that evaluated by community follow-up and health records management;   

  •  Day surgery (endoscopy, etc.) ward management;

  •  Perioperative management;

  •  Diagnosis and treatment of common respiratory diseases such as lung infections, COPD, lung cancer and so on.


We pay attention to the holistic integration of prevention, health care, treatment and rehabilitation. With the help of traditional medicine, alternative medicine and the service concept of "taking the patient as the center", we improve the patient's life style and health awareness and develop a scientific and rational individualized treatment programs for patients with comprehensive and continuous health care. Moreover, we hold domestic academic conferences, various general practitioner education and training programs to cultivate general talents, promote modern general concepts and technologies, and to explore new models of general practice in general hospital as to lead the development of Jiangsu General Practice, and striving for the first-rate general medical center.

Neuroendocrine tumors have been characterized as occult onset, difficult to diagnose, multiple organs and disciplines involved, and complex clinical treatment. Rich experience on clinical and scientific research of neuroendocrine tumors as well as effective therapies have been accumulated in our department to cultivate clinical and scientific researchers. Then, we will establish MDT and open a specialist clinic and ward on NENs to achieve advanced level in domestic towards this field.

Under the guidance of the director, the whole section has distinctive features, and sub-specialty development is advantage. The early diagnosis and treatment of early diagnosis of gastrointestinal tumors, interventional techniques such as ESD, EUS, and ERCP were performed. Moreover, we carry out endoscopic diagnosis and treatment on NENs, especially GEP-NENs to establish a comprehensive system.

In short, the characteristics of general practices lies on general concepts, endoscopic diagnosis and treatment, NENs comprehensive managements.


We have established the MDT teams on NENs for standardized diagnosis and treatment and the international cooperation of NENs. Otherwise, we have made several presentations on NENs in home and abroad, prepared for the establishment of NENs unit or center, and cooperated with Royal Free Hospital to conduct basic and clinical research on NENs.

In 2014, Dr. Tang held the first national seminar on continuing education in neuroendocrine tumors (National Continuing Medical Education 2014-03-03-253), namely "Jinling Forum on Liver Diseases and Diagnosis and Treatment of Gastrointestinal Neuroendocrine Tumors" in Jiangsu Province;

In March 2015, my team participated in Annual Meeting of ENETS in Barcelona;

In September 2015, I participated in the discussion of neuroendocrine tumor case in Peking University Cancer Hospital;

In 2015, Dr. Tang held "Jinling Multidisciplinary Collaboration on Chinese Neuroendocrine Tumors Research Forum" (National Continuing Medical Education 2015-03-03-122).

In December 2016, Dr. Tang held “Chinese Neuroendocrine Tumor Integrated Medical Forum, General Practitioner Clinical Skills Training Class in Jiangsu Province".
