Overview

The department of orthopaedics was founded in 1950. Prof. Chunzhi Hou, graduated from Toronto University with Medical doctorate, was the founder of this department. After decades of hard working, it has established the reputation of leading orthopaedic service provider in Jiangsu province.  

Our department now has 5 divisions with 180 professionals, among which 29 have senior professional titles, 4 are full professors, 8 are associate professors, 4 are doctoral supervisors and 7 are master tutors.

Prof. Yin obtained his doctor degree in Orthopaedics from Suzhou Medical College in 1999, and further studied as fellowship in Rochester University USA from 1999 to 2005, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital USA in 2008, Las Vegas’s Vally Hospital USA in 2008.

Prof. Yin has completed 4 National Nature Science Foundations and 7 national or provincial scientific research projects. He has published more than 20 papers in national and international academic journals as first or corresponding author, such as JCI(IF:14.7)、MCB(IF:9.8)、JBC(IF:7.0). The cumulative impact factors are more than 100. Prof. Yin received the first prize of Jiangsu Medical award and the third prize of Huaxia Medical award in 2013. In 2012, he earned the first prize of Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Progress Award. He also received Young Investigation Prize of America in 2008.

Prof. Yin is specialized in treatment and basic research of spine and spinal cord injury, degenerative diseases of spine and spinal deformity correction.

The department of orthopaedics has 5 divisions: spine, trauma, joint & sport medicine, skeletal & soft tissue tumor and hand surgery.

The spine division offers a complete spectrum of surgical treatments using cutting edge techniques and technologies for spine and spinal cord injuries, complex congenital or acquired spinal deformity, osteoporosis relating spine fracture, spine tumor and spine tuberculosis. This division is also especially experienced with revision surgery of complex spine disorders and minimal invasive surgeries by endoscopy techniques.

Our trauma division is famous for unique service of multidisciplinary care for patients with complex limb injuries. We can provide highly professionalized service for injured patients, including fracture stabilization, soft tissue defect reconstruction, management of osteomyelitis and especially complex pelvic fracture treatment. We also offer evaluation and treatment for osteoporosis and other bone problems, aggressive occupational and physical therapy, pain management geared toward geriatric and medically complex patients, nutrition service and specialized surgical nursing care.

Our joint division can provide a full range of orthopedic surgical services in joint replacement and revision surgery, lower limb deformity correction and arthroscopy surgery. We are also experienced in joint-preserving surgical treatment of hip and knee. We also pioneer in developmental dysplasia of hip, femoroacetabular impingement disease, minimal invasive surgery of hip joint, patella dislocation and knee ligament injury.

The bone tumor division is specialized in exceptionally comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue tumor in children and adults. They include benign tumors, malignant bone tumors, metastatic bone cancer, benign and malignant soft tissue tumors, metabolic bone disease, including osteogenesis imperfecta and rare bone disorders. A team of specialists in adult and pediatric medical oncology, reconstructive surgery, radiation oncology, radiology, and musculoskeletal pathology build on their extensive research and clinical expertise to offer patients a wide range of medical and surgical treatment options. These include advanced reconstructive techniques, limb-saving surgery, and clinical trials with novel therapeutic modalities for sarcoma.

The hand surgery division is experienced with hand function reconstruction with microscopic techniques. We also especially specialize in carpal instability and fracture.

Since 1990s, nearly 40 doctors of our department receive long-or-short term medical training abroad. In 2014, our department has established consistent cooperation relationship with Presbyterian Hospital NY and Children of China Pediatrics Foundation. Besides, our department had several continued cooperation with international institution, such as "Healing with love:First and second JSPH & CCPF Charity Medical Mission".
