The Neurosurgery Department of Jiangsu Province Hospital, founded by Prof. Jin’gao Hou in 1954, is one of the earliest departments of neurosurgery specialty, the first neurosurgery department in the province, one of the key disciplines of Health Promoting Program in 12th and 13th National Five-Year Plan. The center currently employs 109 professionals, among which 20 have senior professional titles, 5 doctoral supervisors, 7 master tutors, 16 talent honors of provincial and ministerial level. One-hundred beds are open, including 15 in NICU. Clinical work is carried out by 7 medical groups of sub specialties, which are neural tumor, skull base neurosurgery functional neurosurgery, cerebrovascular disease, spinal cord diseases, neurotrauma and NICU. In the past five years, there were 15252 outpatients and 2681 inpatients from 17 provinces and cities, and 2458 operations (Four stage surgery 59.4%).
The discipline is the training center for postgraduate and doctoral students, post doctoral mobile station of Nanjing Medical University, and the first batch of professional training bases for Department of Neurosurgery specialists in china. The department employees an Outstanding Young Experts of Jiangsu Province, 2 provincial "333 project" second level training professionals, 2 Key Talents of Health Promoting Project, 1 Provincial Special Professor and 1 Provincial Special Expert, 5 high-level talents of the Six Top Talents program. Members hold a position in many academic institutions at home and abroad, and enjoy good reputation and academic status.
