The Department of Pediatrics of Jiangsu Province Hospital was founded in 1947. The Department currently employs 88 staffs, including 2 professors, 7 associate professors, 2 doctoral supervisors, 4 master supervisors, 12 chief physicians, 8 vice-chief physicians, 4 vice-chief nurses and 15 attending physicians. Nine physicians have doctor’s degree. The Department has 170 medical beds.
Jiangsu Province Hospital is also named as the First Affiliated Hospital, Nanjing Medical University, Jiangsu Province Maternal and Child Care Hospital. Department of Pediatrics of the Hospital is the Provincial Clinical Key Subject, Provincial Neonatal Critical and Emergency Guidance Center, Provincial Key Neonatal Medical Center, National Residency Standardization Training Base and National Drug Clinical Trial Base.

Dr. Hu is a academic leader of provincial level of clinical key department, neonatal key department and provincial neonatal critical and emergency guidance cente. A teacher of provincial neonatal resuscitation training program, Caring of Children Hospital Rechecking Evaluation Training Program. She was a visiting scholar of America Columbia University Medical Center New York Morgan-Stanley Childre’s Hospital.

She now is a committee member of Neonatal Branch Association of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Neonatal Health Professional Committee of Chinese Association of Maternal and Child Health Care, deputy director of Jiangsu Province Neonatal Medical Quality Control Center, Province Preventive Medical Association Immune Planning Committee, and committee member of Jiangsu Province Medical Association Pediatric Branch Association.

Pediatrics is a subject which integrates clinical, scientific research and teaching. In clinical aspect the following are awarded: annual hospital medical collective contribution award, critical illness major rescue award, medical quality management award, medical new technology and new project achievement award. In education aspect, the Department undertakes the teaching tasks of Pediatrics Curriculum for students of seven-year educational system, five-year educational system, international students, students from Adult Education School and Kangda School of Nanjing Medical University. Significant achievements were obtained. The Department or teachers in the Department gained the collective and individual advanced/outstanding awards every year. The remarkable scientific achievements were gained, including more than 10 National Natural Scientific Funds and Social Development Funds, 1 Ministry of Education Doctoral Educational Site Fund, 3 funds of Provincial Departments, and 2 funds of Provincial Health Department Key Talent Project. In recent five years, hundreds of SCI papers and high-quality core journal papers have been published. Doctors are editors in chief of pediatric clinical monographs, pediatric manuals and a variety of pediatric reference books. Have been obtained many Science and Technology Awards and New Technology Introduction Project Awards of provinces, province departments, and Nanjing City.
While inheriting the traditional advantages of the discipline, pediatrics is aiming at the international forefront, emphasizing the development of new technology and broadening the new field.
The Department has major rescue technology for extremely low birth weight infants, multiple PICC puncture technique and neonatal various modes of constant frequency and high frequency of mechanical ventilation. We conduct high-risk infants follow-up and intervention of the advantages of technology, very low and extremely low birth weight infants with invasive arterial blood pressure monitoring and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in children with malignant tumor, the application in the treatment of children with retinoblastoma (including relapsed Rb) advanced technology, diagnosis and treatment of children with asthma and chronic cough in children. We have standardized diagnosis and treatment of nitric oxide breath test and other specialized technology, and treatment of children with short stature and early maturity.
