The Ultrasound Department of Jiangsu Province Hospital was founded in 1982. After decades of effort and under the leadership of Prof. Di Xu, the department is now the center of clinical medicine, teaching and science research in Jiangsu Province with good reputation among level III hospitals in China.
The department is the ultrasound teaching and research section of Nanjing Medical University. It is also set up as the training base for the standardized training of residents and advanced study of Jiangsu ultrasound doctors.
The department currently employs 34 ultrasound professionals with master's degree or above, including 3 chief physicians, 6 associate chief physicians, 1 full professor, 3 associate professors, 1 doctoral supervisor and 3 master tutors.

Dr. Xu is the standing committee member of Ultrasound Society of Chinese Medical Association as well as Chinese Medical Doctor Association. He is the deputy chief of cardiology group, Ultrasound Society of Chinese Medical Association and vice chairman of echocardiography Committee, Ultrasound Society of Chinese Medical Doctor Association and Chinese Association of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering. He is also ex-chairman of Jiangsu Medical Association and Jiangsu Medical Doctor Association of ultrasound medicine.
Dr. Xu obtained his PhD degree in cardiology from Nanjing Medical University in 2002, further studied as Senior Visiting Scholar in Emory University, USA from 2006 to 2007. Dr. Xu completed 3 National Nature Science Foundations, and 10 provincial and municipal scientific research projects. Dr. Xu published more than 100 papers in national and international academic journals as first or corresponding author and accomplished 30 books and monograph as chief editor, associate editor or editor.
Dr. Xu is specialized in clinical and experimental study of Echocardiography, clinical use of cardiac pacemaker, coronary heart disease, hypertension, drug therapy of heart failure
The department has five subspecialities of abdomen ultrasound, superficial organ ultrasound, musculoskeletal ultrasound, vascular ultrasound and interventional ultrasound which could meet different clinical requirements. The department also provides the new ultrasound technologies such as contrast-enhanced Ultrasonography (CEUS), Ultrasound Elastography, Ultrasound-guided Biopsy, Ultrasound-guided Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA), Microwave or Radiofrequency Ablation for Tumor therapy. In recent two years, the department has accomplished more than 1000 CEUS and Elastography cases, more than 1200 Ultrasound-guided Biopsy and FNA cases, and more than 300 Ultrasound-guided percutaneous puncture sclerotherapy of various cysts.

Abdomen ultrasound (hepatobiliary, pancreatic, splenic and urinary diseases, abdominal and pelvic lesions)
Superficial organ ultrasound (breast, thyroid, lymph node, parotid and salivary gland lesions)
Musculoskeletal ultrasound (muscles, arthrosis and neural lesions, superficial tissue masses)
Vascular ultrasound (cervical and periphery vascular lesions)
Interventional ultrasound (Ultrasound-guided Biopsy and FNA, Ultrasound-guided percutaneous puncture sclerotherapy of various cysts)
New ultrasound technology (CEUS and Ultrasound Elastography for hepatobiliary, renal, beast and thyroid lesions, Microwave or Radiofrequency Ablation for Tumor therapy)
Since 2013, our department began to send out the excellent staff abroad. Nearly 15 persons had the experienced to learn abroad with the Scholar and participate the international meeting.
