Immunological Genetics and HLA Typing
The Center of Immunological Genetics and HLA Typing is the high and New Technology Laboratory of Jiangsu Province Hospital. The laboratory was certificated by experts of national Red Cross organization in December 2002. In 2015 laboratory promoted as The Center of Immunological Genetics and HLA Typing. After decades of effort under the leadership of Prof. Jie Shen, it is now the only one China Marrow Data Program expert committee membership from HLA Typing laboratory among level III hospitals in China.
The center currently employs 6 professionals, among which 2 have senior professional titles. The center have the close relationship with Terasaki foundation and Clinical Transplantation Immunology Laboratory of Duke University Medical School in the field of HLA molecular genetics and HLA related diseases research.

Dr. Shen is working as Director of the Center of Immunological Genetics and HLA Typing, Jiangsu Province Hospital, Nanjing, China. He is the member of China Marrow Data Program expert committee.
Dr. Shen obtained his MD and MS in Internal medicine from Ningxia Medical University in 2000, further studied as postdoctoral fellowship for NIH,NIDDK, Phoenix USA 2007 to 2008. He published more than 100 papers in national and international academic journals. He received Outstanding Scientist for Jiangsu Province in 2007. Six Science and Technology Prize have been achieved by him, five from Academic Committee of Science and Technology Prize of Jiangsu Province. One from China Ministry of Education
Dr. Shen is specialized in molecular genetics and HLA related diseases (such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis, subacute thyroiditis,diabetes, obesity, PCOS, etc.).

What is HLA Typing?
Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing, utilising the sequence-specific oligonucleotide (SSO) and sequence-specific primer (SSP) technologies, has been in routine use in many tissue typing laboratories worldwide for more than 20 years since the development of the polymerase chain reaction. Both methods are very useful for clinical and research purposes and can provide generic (low resolution) to allelic (high resolution) typing results. This chapter provides an overview of the SSO and SSP methods in relation to HLA typing.
What is Luminex?
The Luminex 200 System is a flexible analyzer based on the principles of flow cytometry.
The system enables you to multiplex (simultaneously measure) up to 100 analytes in a single microplate well, using very small samples. The system delivers fast and cost-effective bioassay results on many assay formats including nucleic acid assays, receptor-ligand assays, immunoassays, and enzymatic assays.
The Luminex 200 System is the combination of three core xMAP® Technologies. The first is xMAP microspheres, a family of fluorescently dyed micron-sized polystyrene microspheres that act as both the identifier and the solid surface to build the assay. The second is a flow cytometry-based instrument, the Luminex 200 analyzer, which integrates key xMAP detection components, such as lasers, optics, fluidics, and high-speed digital signal processors. The third component is the xPONENT® software, which is designed for protocol-based data acquisition with robust data regression analysis.
