The Department of Laboratory Medicine in the First Affiliated Hospital with Nanjing Medical University (NJMU) has a long and proud tradition of providing leading edge clinical care, comprehensive education, and outstanding biomedical research in the field. Its roots can be traced back to the work of Sixin Ye, who, as head of the Clinical Laboratories of Jiangsu Province Hospital (JSPH) in 1956, established manual methodologies for routine tests of blood, urine and stool samples together with the other two partners. Today, the department employs more than 150 people and integrate three important parts of clinical service, education and research.
