On January 8, 2018, Prof. Phillip Nakad and Dr. Fan Fan (Deputy Director of Chinese Affairs Department) from Australia Macquarie University visited the WHO Collaborating Center for Prevention of Deaf and Hearing Loss (WHO CC for PDH) in Jiangsu Province Hospital. Dr. Zhibin Chen (Associate Director of the Otolaryngology Department), Dr. Min Yin (Assistant Director of WHOCC for PDH), Dr. Xiaolu Li and colleagues of the administrative department participated in the reception of visitors.
In-depth and meticulous exchanges have been conducted cordial and friendly between the two sides to start with, Dr. Xiaolu Li expressed warmly welcome to the visitors. Then Prof. Phillip introduced that Macquarie University was founded in 1964, and its hearing institute has become the WHO collaborating center for the Prevention of Deafness last year.
Macquarie University is the only public university which has its land ownership and owns a private hospital with 200 beds in Australia. The University is famous for its high-level audiology education system, which has trained many audiologists in the past few years. The University has been working with the Ministry of Science and Technology of China for many years, providing a three-year professional training to Chinese doctors so as to promote the audiology education in China. The students graduated from this program have become senior audiologists and physicians in China now.
The two sides both expressed that they hope this meeting would enhance the understanding between the university and our hospital, and in the future more collaboration opportunities could be explored furtherly.
After the meeting, the guests visited the Hearing Center of the Otolaryngology Department and discussed details of the potential collaboration. Prof. Phillip and Mr. Fan expressed their heartfelt thanks to the warm reception, and they would keep in touch with our hospital for further communication and cooperation in audiology with our hospital.
